Our Philosophy
At WNS, we encourage independent thinking and problem solving to help children gain respect and confidence in themselves. Social and emotional development are key components of WNS daily practices. This includes positive reinforcement and inspiration to use language and strategies for sharing.
WNS provides opportunities involving creativity, exploration and discovery. Exposure to music, dance, yoga and mindfulness are embedded in the weekly schedule. We are grateful to partner with the Music Together Program for fun exposure to songs and instruments. A strong community relationship is a priority including frequent excursions to the town library, post office, Faulkner Park, Vail Field, “Butternut Park” and Mount Peg. We value fresh air, open sky and nature which is expressed in the time we spend in the outdoors.
A Typical Day at WNS
When the children arrive in the morning, they first place their backpacks and lunches in their cubby before choosing from one of several activities for open free play. We then gather for our morning meeting, which always includes time for moving our bodies and getting excited for the day. After snack, we head outside; we dress for the weather and find fun even when it's a little chilly or wet. We often visit Vail Field, the library, or walk to the Village Green. We come back in for another activity inside before eating lunch and enjoying a story.
The preschool portion of our day ends and some students leave at 1:00PM; those who remain enjoy a nap/quiet time with books to recharge. Our afternoons include another snack time and a second dose of time outside. Our extended care wraps up at 4:00PM. It's been another full day at WNS!
