Location

Our classroom is located on the first floor of the beautiful and historic Little Theater in Woodstock, Vermont. The open, airy space is filled with natural light and has an attached kitchen allowing us to bake healthy snacks. We have created a homey, simple environment where the children may comfortably explore and play.

Our Philosophy

At WNS, we encourage independent thinking and problem solving to help children gain respect and confidence in themselves. Social and emotional development are key components of WNS daily practices. This includes positive reinforcement and inspiration to use language and strategies for sharing.

WNS provides opportunities involving creativity, exploration and discovery. Exposure to music, dance, yoga and mindfulness are embedded in the weekly schedule. We are grateful to partner with the Music Together Program for fun exposure to songs and instruments. A strong community relationship is a priority including frequent excursions to the town library, post office, Faulkner Park, Vail Field, “Butternut Park” and Mount Peg. We value fresh air, open sky and nature which is expressed in the time we spend in the outdoors.

A Typical Day at WNS

When the children arrive in the morning, they first place their backpacks and lunches in their cubby before choosing from one of several activities for open free play. We then gather for our morning meeting, which always includes time for moving our bodies and getting excited for the day. After snack, we head outside; we dress for the weather and find fun even when it's a little chilly or wet. We often visit Vail Field, the library, or walk to the Village Green. We come back in for another activity inside before eating lunch and enjoying a story.

The preschool portion of our day ends and some students leave at 1:00PM; those who remain enjoy a nap/quiet time with books to recharge. Our afternoons include another snack time and a second dose of time outside. Our extended care wraps up at 4:00PM. It's been another full day at WNS!

Meet Our Teachers

Wendy Krygier

Director + Head Teacher

Wendy is the director and lead teacher at Woodstock Nursery School.

She has been an early educator for 10 years and feels the preschool years of a child's life are the most brilliant. Wendy is honored to watch and guide your child as their unique imagination and creativity unfold. She is passionate about engaging and immersing young children in art and self expression, exploring the natural world, building individual and peer social skills, and continuing to encourage the joy and wonder that is innate in all children.

Wendy has a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Psychology from the University of Vermont and her teaching license for ages Birth to 5 through the State of Vermont.

In her personal time, Wendy enjoys being with her family and friends, swimming in the ocean, and soaking up every ounce of summer she can.

Bobby Brenna III

Assistant Teacher

Bobby is the Assistant Teacher at Woodstock Nursery School.

He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and History from the University of Vermont in 2011.

Bobby has worked professionally with children of varying ages for many years and is in his third year as an Early Educator.  In addition to teaching preschool, Bobby has been a nanny, a one-on-one service provider, a behavioral interventionist, and a foster father.

Bobby's greatest passion is cultivating a child’s curiosity in the natural world around them. Whether that be in a school yard, back yard, farm yard, or deep in the forest, Bobby strives to find fun and accessible ways to teach children the basics of scientific inquiry, build each child's appreciation for their role and responsibility to our community and our planet, and learn as much cool stuff about nature as possible!

When he is not teaching, Bobby is a beekeeper and is building a farm and apiary in the mountains nearby.

We’ve been part of the WNS family for five years. All three of our daughters spent their formative preschool years in this nurturing environment which is rooted in relationships. The compassionate teachers, the nature-based play, the whole child focus, the small class size, the flexibility of schedule and overall simplicity made it the right choice for us. Our children have flourished at WNS and we are grateful for their presence in the community.

We only have good things to say about the Woodstock Nursery School. Everyone there has been very calm, kind, and attentive with our daughter. The children spend a lot of time outdoors, both with free play and long walks, and our daughter often comes home with rocks and acorn treasures in her pockets. The classroom is simple, clean, orderly, and engaging. Much of the classroom routine is done incorporating songs and verbal cues so the kids have a good idea of what is expected, and what comes next. Our daughter comes home happy and excited about what she did during the day.

Of the many experiences I could provide about my son’s time at Woodstock Nursery School, the most important one is how the school made him and I feel. Ms. Wendy and Ms. Gertrude are quick reads. Within a short period of time they truly understood my son. They “see” their students and appreciate their individuality, inclusive of both their strengths and areas in need of support. I always felt supported, heard, and at ease knowing Welles was being taken care of. I can’t thank WNS enough for providing such a caring, nurturing, and safe learning environment. Our time here will be greatly missed.
